HIStalk Interview Reveals Value of EHR-Embedded Patient Engagement

At the core of the conversation is understanding and engaging patients when and where they prefer. “We have to understand patient preferences. Certainly, they vary by demographic type, and age, but essentially what a patient is looking for is a seamless experience,” shares Krishnan, in his July 26, 2021 published interview. A seamless experience helps healthcare organizations build trust and ease patient concerns which leads to higher patient engagement, care adherence and an increase in revenue.

Krishnan further shares that a seamless patient experience is best accomplished by deeply integrating all patient data within the healthcare institution’s EHR – including patient engagement activities. When deeply embedded within the EHR, the most effective patient engagement platform leverages augmented intelligence to parse patient demographic data and preferences contained within the EHR. This makes messaging more personalized and increases the likelihood of response.

“An augmented intelligence patient engagement platform integrated into the EHR knows when a patient needs to hear what and when. Once one of those automated workflows is set up by hospital staff, it runs. It can be monitored and reported on, but it doesn’t need to be manually managed. A platform like that will reach out to patients about the right thing at the right time and collect responses. That makes it more tailored, more personalized, and ultimately more effective”

Today, patient engagement solutions are a priority investment for health systems and providers seeking to decrease operational costs while increasing community health and patient satisfaction. “This [patient engagement] is about holistic care, which ultimately drives patient satisfaction and improves community health.”
