In the News: Reaching Patients for COVID-19 Booster Shots

Building on the learnings from the initial vaccine rollout, healthcare organizations are tuning-up their patient engagement approach for the COVID-19 booster. Automating digital outreach can help reach patients at scale, giving rapid boost to information, education and scheduling efforts.

According to recent recommendations from the CDC1, “anyone who is eligible to get a booster dose of vaccine should do so.” Variants remain unpredictable and this year the flu season threatens to land more patients in their doctor’s office for respiratory care. According to the US Center2 for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 10.7 million people have received a booster shot, including roughly 15% of seniors ages 65 and up. Despite the uptake numbers, healthcare organization are challenged to engage and schedule millions more patients for COVID-19 booster shots.

Improve COVID-19 Booster Campaigns

In a recent article featured in MedCityNews, titled Automating Patient Engagement can Improve National Roll-out of Covid-19 Booster Vaccine, Intrado’s Vik Krishnan shares that automated, digital patient engagement is helping healthcare organizations roll-out COVID-19 booster programs.  Further, Krishnan emphasizes, “given the amount of discussion and confusion surrounding this issue, it is very possible that these recommendations will continue to evolve. For that reason, health systems should be prepared to quickly adjust their vaccine distribution approach based on new guidance.”

Building on the learnings from the initial vaccine rollout, healthcare organizations are tuning-up their approach. Automating digital outreach can help reach patients at scale, giving rapid boost to information, education and scheduling efforts. SMS messaging, in particular, can help healthcare organizations reach patients with information that answers common questions and concerns. Plus, sophisticated patient engagement technologies make it easy to segment patient groups by demographics, locations, and eligibility criteria.
