From Accident to 9-1-1 in Seconds: Intrado Demonstrates AACN Tech

Every second matters after a serious collision, but today, getting help moving fast still depends on someone being able to call 9-1-1 and describe what happened. Intrado's Advanced Automatic Collision Notification (AACN), demoed by John Snapp, changes that.

With a sensor-equipped vehicle, AACN detects a collision and automatically sends the data straight to 9-1-1, no phone call needed. The system uses VEDS, a NENA i3 standard, transmitted over Next Generation 9-1-1 networks that can carry this level of detail all the way to the PSAP. The moment the collision is triggered, a call taker sees exactly what they need to respond: location, vehicle type, airbag deployment, vehicle orientation, fire risk, and injury severity, with the potential for even more, such as medical history and emergency contacts.

This means first responders get the full picture in seconds, not minutes, before they ever arrive on scene.

Typical emergency workflows often require multiple systems, handoffs, and manual intervention before responders receive complete information. AACN technology bridges the gap between connected vehicles and the public safety ecosystem by securely delivering validated emergency events and vehicle-generated data to the appropriate 9-1-1 center:

  • Routes emergencies to the correct public safety answering point (PSAP)
  • Delivers voice, location, and VEDS incident data through a unified workflow
  • Supports both NG9-1-1 and legacy public safety environments
  • Reduces friction between emergency event detection and responder dispatch

Ensure emergencies reach the right people quickly and help occupants get help sooner. Reach out to learn more!
