Many PSAPs and ECCS still rely on legacy technology such as Centralized Automatic Messaging Accounting (CAMA) networking or T1 trunks or still rely on Request for Assistance Interface (RFAI) to route 911 emergency calls to call centers. This hampers their ability to move to new cloud-native call handling services that are enabled through NENA i3-compliant IP solutions. In parallel, when contemplating the use of Cloud-based technologies, many PSAPs are concerned about their ability to maintain emergency services for their communities when facing a loss of connectivity or a loss of the back-end cloud services.
