Understanding and Meeting the FCC's NG9-1-1 Rules for Originating Service Providers

By a unanimous vote on July 18, 2024, the Federal Communications Commission took a groundbreaking step forward to accelerate the transition to end-to-end Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) in the United States with FCC 24-78. The Commission's action will boost efforts to modernize emergency services by advancing the transition to an IP-based 9-1-1 system, promising faster, more efficient responses during critical situations.

Intrado was an active participant in shaping these rules, meeting several times with the FCC to talk about the key decisions for extending NG9-1-1 and what it's like to work with Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) that are preparing for these capabilities as well as with Originating Service Providers (OSPs) that will initiate NG9-1-1 service to the PSAP.
